Owner Jimmy Morton is a native Nashvillian. He started out working for a couple of small plumbing companies, but before too long, he just branched out on his own. He said, “I went in business (for myself) because I felt like I could control the quality.”

In 1986, Jimmy started Morton Plumbing, with only one plumber, himself. Jimmy said he did not have any regrets and surprisingly, little fear in stepping out on his own. He described the feeling as one of “release”. In the beginning, he worked totally on his own, as a one-man plumbing company.

Jimmy found he didn’t have to solicit much business in the beginning. He had relationships with the local community and was well-known in the area. The phone would ring and the caller would say, “I need Jimmy to come over and fix something.” Word of mouth did the rest. From the beginning, Morton Plumbing was known for the quality of its work and the responsiveness and care for its customers.

Within a couple of months he realized there was too much work for one plumber to possibly handle in a 24-hour day. He soon hired a 2nd plumber to the team. Within the year, he continued to add more staff as the demand for his plumbing services rose. Currently, Morton Plumbing, Heating & Cooling has a staff of 10, including his son and step-son. Jimmy is as particular about quality as he is about his plumbing. The work of all plumbers on the team must meet the high-quality standards he first set when starting the company.

Best Plumber & Angie’s List Honors

Morton Plumbing’s reputation is so high that the company was awarded honors in the Nashville Scene’s “Best Plumbers” category for the past six years (winner in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017 (finalist)). Similarly Morton Plumbing, Heating & Cooling has won The Tennessean’s Toast of Music City* award in the Best Plumber category for the past six years (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017)* and Best Heating & Cooling for the past four years (2014 – silver medal; and 2015, 2016, & 2017 – 1st place). Clearly Morton Plumbing, Heating & Cooling has won the respect of the local community.

But the award that makes Jimmy the proudest is the Angie’s List “Super Service Award for Plumbers,” which is awarded to the top 5% plumbing companies in the nation, based on customer feedback. His insistence on quality and customer service has truly paid off.

*In 2018 the Nashville’s Toast of Music City Awards program was discontinued.

Best Plumbing Advice to Home Owners

When asked what is the best piece of advice to give a home owner about their plumbing, he said, “Don’t put off doing something when you have a known plumbing issue. Call a plumber as soon as you notice a slow drain or low water pressure. Putting things off only makes it worse.”
